James E. Kennedy age 81 died on Friday February 19, 2010 in his residence in DeKalb. Born on April 23, 1928 in St. Mary Hospital in DeKalb, he was the son of James E. and Irene (Hart) Kennedy.
Jim was married to the former Mary Ellen Converse on December 24, 1958 in Sterling, IL. Jim owned and operated Jim’s RV Center and Body Shop in DeKalb for 34 years, retiring in 1995. He has lived his entire life in the DeKalb community except for his tour in the United States Navy, serving in the Pacific Theatre during W.W.II. Jim was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in DeKalb, Life Member of the DeKalb Elks #765, former member of the DeKalb Chamber of Commerce, and was a mentor for high school students in the Auto Body industry. He was an avid fan of NASCAR. Jim graduated from DeKalb High School in the class of 1946.
Survivors include: wife: Mary Ellen of DeKalb, children: Patrick (Lucy) Kennedy of Naperville, Kathleen (Robert) Auw of Yorkville, Cynthia (Thomas) Moore of Las Vegas, NV, Cherrie (John) Yost of Cheyenne, WY, grandchildren: Hannah and Molly Auw, Dillon and Zoe Kennedy, Shane (Cassie) Little, Travis (Yvonne) Little, great-grandchildren: Austin, Dustin, Cody, Savannah Little, and Wyatt and Autumn Little. Preceded in death by: parents, sisters: Madge Gile and Betty Schryer.
Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday February 24, 2010 at 10:30 am in the St. Mary Catholic Church in DeKalb with Father Kenneth Anderson officiating. Private family burial will be in Genoa Township Cemetery Genoa, IL. Visitation will be held on Wednesday February 24, 2010 at 9:30 am till the time of the service in the church.
