Walter L. Janssen age 83 of Oregon, IL, died on Saturday January 23, 2010 in the Katherine Shaw Bethea Hospital in Dixon, IL. He was born on July 30, 1926 in Oregon, IL, and he was the son of Martin and Jennie (Krull) Janssen.
Walter was married to the former Dorothy Rosenbalm on October 29, 1947 in the Methodist Church in Oregon, IL. Walter was retired from the City of Oregon working in the Water and Sewer Department. He was also a volunteer for the Oregon Fire Department. He has lived his entire life in the Oregon community. Walter had served in the United States Marine Corps from January 17, 1945 till November 11, 1946 serving in the Pacific Theatre. He was a member of the Mt. Morris Moose #1551, Life Member of the Oregon V.F.W. # 8739, and he was an avid fisherman and pool player.
Survivors include: wife: Dorothy of Oregon, daughter: Judee (Mike Musgrave) Pratt of Sterling, sons: Larry (Sue Bondi) Janssen of Dixon, Gary (Joan) Janssen of Dixon, grandchildren: Veronica (Don) Lovett of Dixon, Michael (Courtney) Janssen of Sterling, David (Jeannette) Janssen of Springfield, IL, 10 great-grandchildren, sisters: Leta Thomas of AZ, Barbara (Ken) Giese of Oregon. Preceded in death by: parents.
There are no services planned, the family has donated his loving body to Northern Illinois University for further study. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses from the hospital for their loving care giving to Walter.
