Bernice Hammett, age 94, of DeKalb, IL, passed away on Monday, December 14, 2009, in the Bethany Health Care and Rehab. Center in DeKalb, IL. She was born May 20, 1915, in DeKalb, the daughter of Nellie (Cotton) and Harry Wallin. Bernice married Ray Hammett April 26, 1936, in Sycamore; they were married 65 years.
She graduated from DeKalb High School in 1933 and attended Northern Illinois State Teachers College. Bernice was a member of First United Methodist Church, being affiliated with a circle and United Methodist Women. She was also a member of DeKalb Woman’s Club, Order of the Eastern Star, and DeKalb County Farm Bureau.
Bernice was a homemaker and for many years lived on the farm while her husband farmed. She enjoyed entertaining, playing cards, dancing and traveling. Most of all she enjoyed being with her family.
She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl (Kurt) Keene, DeKalb, and grandsons Wade (Glynis) Keene, of Homewood, and Andy Keene of China. She also had one great grandson, Stewart Keene, of Homewood.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray, her parents, and her daughter, Candice.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 19, 2009, at 12:30pm in the Ronan-Moore-Finch Funeral Home with Reverend Jane Eesley of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Park Cemetery, DeKalb. Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 19, 2009, at 11:00am until the time of the service in the funeral home.
