Eunice Wallin Hartmann - 99
11/16/1909 - 10/4/2009

DeKalb, IL - Eunice Wallin Hartmann, 99, died October 4, 2009 at Kishwaukee Community Hospital. Born November 16, 1909, in DeKalb, she was the daughter of Oscar and Carrie (Johnson) Wallin. She married Paul W. Hartmann of Joliet, Illinois, on August 21, 1938 on the family farm.

Eunice lived nearly all her life in DeKalb on the farm on which she was born. She attended DeKalb schools, graduating from DeKalb High School in 1926. She earned her teaching certificate from Northern Illinois State Normal School and then began her teaching career at the Dresser School, a one-room schoolhouse she had attended as a child. She also taught in Channahon and Shabbona before putting her career on hold when her daughter was born. She later enjoyed many years of substitute teaching in DeKalb as well as serving as the director of the library at Littlejohn Elementary for several years.

Eunice enjoyed gardening, reading, and playing cards. Up until her death, she was still playing pinochle in the same club she had helped form over sixty years ago. However, her true passion was travel, and she visited every continent except Australia on her many journeys.

Eunice is survived by her daughter Paula (James) Bryner of DeKalb and her grandson Timothy (Lori) Bryner of Chicago, three nephews and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband Paul, her parents, and her sister Ellyn Wallin.

Dear Paula: You were very lucky to have your Mom for so many years. My Mother (Ethel Huntley and Grandmother Florence Rich) played in the bounco club with her for years and enjoyed her company. I have visited with you on several day trips and always thought it how nice you two could still enjoy them togather. My sincere sympathy. Janice
