Upon his discharge he went on to graduate from Iowa State College, Ames, Iowa. He was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and their treasurer.

On June 23, 1951 he married the love of his life, Janice Sue Anderson in Des Moines, Iowa at the Union Park Methodist Church. Mr. Carson was employed by Crum & Forster Insurance Companies first in Des Moines, IA, then transferring to the Freeport, IL office, then to St. Louis, MO, out to the New York City office, and then several locations in NJ until his retirement in 1990 as the Assistant Vice President of Commercial Underwriting. He had earned the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter designation in the 1970’s. Bill and Janice relocated one more time in 1997 to DeKalb, IL to be nearer to family.

Mr. Carson had a funny side, a quick wit, a kind caring heart, a brilliant mind, a love of life and animals not easily matched. He enjoyed learning, and reading was a favorite pastime, especially on the subject of history. You are in our prayers and sorry to hear of your loss. Bill was such a wonderful man, husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was the most patient and easy going manner. We have such wonderful memories spending time at your parent's house and having four blonde little girls running around and being noisy and your father just enjoyed the chaos and joined in the fun. I hope that your many happy memories will help you with your loss. Love Deb, Jennifer and Jaci

We had the pleasure of being next-door neighbors to the Carsons for a few years before they moved home to Illinois. Bill was a very loving and probably one of the most patient men I’ve known. I can still picture him taking his daily walk with poodles in tow (Don Juan and Romeo) and his two lovely little granddaughters, Jacquie and Joelle, skipping between his legs. Or filling their little wading pool on one of those fluke warm days in early spring so they could take in a pre-season swim. He was always involved with them, and you could see he loved them very much. And his garden was beautiful too. (I’m still admiring the variegated solomon seal plant that Bill dug out for us, not to mention his lawn was like velvet—what was his secret to that?) He and Janice took pride in everything they did and it showed. Unique garden, beautiful home, and a loving family to match. Janice, Melissa, Jacquie, Joelle and family, we extend our heartfelt condolences to you. Bill was truly a gentleman and a scholar, and we will forever remember him.
